We have our own laboratory with extensive capabilities located at the factory in Perth.

The laboratory conducts both routine activated carbon analysis and application development studies. Our objective is to conduct any type of product development research to assist industries with their applications.

Recent additions to our laboratory include a laser defractometer for particle size determination and a total organic carbon (TOC) analyser for drinking water analysis.

Primary Testing Capabilities :

ACT Laboratory

We have the capability to conduct all standard tests relating to activated carbon such as :

  • particle size
  • iodine number
  • ash content
  • moisture content
  • apparent density

We use these tests to ensure the best possible products are supplied to our customers.

 Testing Details :

Jar Testing

We can carry out jar testing to identify:

  • the most cost effective activated carbon for your situation
  • the required dose of PAC to achieve a certain level of compound removal.

It would be tested on your water and under the specific WTP conditions you will be using it in.

Total Organic Carbon

In addition to the standard production tests, We have a highly sensitive drinking water laboratory capable of conducting analysis of:

  • dissolved organic carbon (DOC)
  • biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC)
  • UV absorbance scans for characterisation of organics

These facilities allow us to optimise our products for the drinking water industry. In addition we can provide technical support for our customers, such as optimisation of ozone dose and BAC operating conditions. This is a unique and valuable testing method that we offer all our customers.

GAC Aging Analysis

We carry out aging analysis on GAC/BAC samples from drinking water treatment plants. This thorough set of analyses includes:

  • mineral composition
  • particle size evolution
  • activity decay

This information is crucial to predict the bed life of the carbon and assists in identifying any process problems that may have been going on unnoticed.

Leachate Testing

As part of our product development programs for activated carbon used in drinking water treatment we routinely perform leachate testing. This research ensures that we know how to achieve an activated carbon product that:

  • has no floaters
  • has no pH effects and
  • contributes no water soluble leachates during the commissioning process.

Particle Size Determination

By using a laser defractometer we can with extreme precision determine the particle size of our PAC products. It is used both as a quality control in production as well as for evaluating different carbon applications and performances.

Special Requests

We have been undertaking special trials in close cooperation with Coca Cola Amatil in carbon optimisation studies. The goal is to provide the best carbon for removing chloramines and disinfection by-products after super-chlorination.

We carry out gold adsorption kinetic testing and sugar decolourising trials. The outcome of these trials will assist in selecting the most suitable carbon for a specific application.
